How to Remove and Install Toyota Tundra TRO Pro Grill?
Share
If you own a 3rd Gen Tundra, you already know the TRD Pro model sits at the top of the food chain. The biggest tell? That aggressive, heritage-inspired grille with the retro “TOYOTA” lettering across the front.
For those of us who didn’t spring for the Pro model, the good news is that you can retrofit the factory Toyota Tundra TRD Pro grill onto a Limited or Off-Road package without pulling your hair out.
If you’ve been shopping for a Toyota Tundra grill upgrade, stick around. This is the definitive DIY guide for the 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra TRD grill swap.
Tools & Prep Work
Before we dive in, grab a 10mm and 14mm socket, a panel removal tool (or a careful hand with a screwdriver), and a trim screw with a large washer (trust me on this one).
Here is the step-by-step breakdown of how this install goes down on a 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro grille or any 2022-2024 model.
Step 1: Disassembly – Bumper Cover Off
You cannot just pop the grille out. On the 3rd Gen, the grille is integrated with the upper bumper cover.
Remove the top bolts: Start with the four 14mm bolts holding the grille to the top of the radiator support.

Disconnect the electrics: Unplug the electrical connectors. There are two on the passenger side and two on the driver's side.

Pull the fender flares: Use your panel tool to pop out the fender flares starting at the bottom. You only need to go up about halfway to free the bumper cover.

Undercarriage bolts: Slide under the truck. Remove the 10mm bolts from the front brackets (four total: two on the sides, two in the middle).

Two bracket bolts: Remove 10mm bolts behind the grille.

Active Grille Shutters (AGS): Disconnect the AGS harness and remove the six 10mm bolts to slide the shutter mechanism out. Once those are loose, the whole bumper cover pulls right off.

Step 2: The Camera Problem (Limited Owners Pay Attention)
Remove the facing Camera firstly.

Here is where the install gets specific to the Toyota Tundra grille swap. On Limited trim, the front-facing camera has two mounting points. However, the Tundra TRD Pro grille only has one mounting point (with two little guide dials).
The temporary fix:
You could grab a trim screw with a large washer and tightened it down on that single mounting point. It sounds janky, but it is rock solid. If your truck doesn't have a front camera (lower trims), you skip this entirely.

Step 3: Transferring the TSS Sensor
Disconnect the TSS sensor and remove all the screws that are holding the grille surround onto the grille.

The TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) sensor is critical. Do not break this. Pop the sensor out of the old Tundra grille. Reuse the same rubber grommets on the new Toyota Tundra TRD Pro grille. Bolt it down tight.

While you have the grille apart, also pop off the little lower bumper caps and the inner bezels. It makes reaching the TSS sensor way easier.

Step 4: Reassembly & The Final Look
Once the camera is secured and the TSS sensor is bolted in: Pop the new grille insert into the surround. Reinstall the Active Grille Shutters. Snap all the bumper caps and surrounds back on. Throw the whole bumper assembly back onto the truck. Make sure you guide it carefully so you don't scratch your headlights or fenders. Reattach all your nuts, bolts, and push clips.

Total install time?
About an hour and a half to two hours. Most of that was fiddling with the front camera bracket. If you have a base model without the camera, you could knock this out in 45 minutes.
If you are on the fence about upgrading your 2022-2024 Tundra grill, just do it. It's a straightforward weekend project that changes the entire personality of the truck.
